May 15, 2018

The Wainwright Golden Beer Book Prize, which celebrates the best books about nature, the outdoors and UK travel announces the judges and 2018 dates for the upcoming prize.

Now in its fifth year, The Wainwright Golden Beer Book Prize, is awarded annually to the book which most successfully reflects the ethos of renowned nature writer Alfred Wainwright’s work, to inspire readers to explore the outdoors and to nurture a respect for the natural world.

The judging panel will be chaired by Julia Bradbury, and includes fellow TV presenter Megan Hine, and representatives from partners The National Trust and The Wainwright Society.

Keep your eyes peeled for the shortlist announcement, which will take place on the 5th July at Waterstones flagship London store in Piccadilly. The launch is set to be our biggest yet, with our sponsor, Marston Brewery, providing the refreshments.

Last years winner was John Lewis-Stempel, taking home the prize for a second time with his book Where Poppies Blow – The British Soldier, Nature, The Great War. John combined his two loves, nature and military history, to provide a new and vital study of the soldiers’ experience of the First World War.

The winner will be presented with the £5,000 prize by Ellie Harrison of BBC Countryfile on 2nd August at Countryfile Live in Blenheim Palace.
