By Alastair Humphreys

Global adventurer Alastair Humphreys has cycled around the world and rowed the Atlantic. Keen to cut down on foreign travel, he spends a year exploring the Ordnance Survey map around his home, one square per week. It’s an unassuming landscape, but being relentlessly curious about everything he finds teaches him more about the natural world than all his years in remote environments. Local is his journal, blending lyrical writing, factoids and passionate argument, as well as a call to readers to do the same where they live.
