Global adventurer Alastair Humphreys has cycled around the world and rowed the Atlantic. Keen to cut down on foreign travel, he spends a year exploring the Ordnance Survey map around his home, one square per week. It’s an unassuming landscape, but being relentlessly curious about everything he finds teaches him more about the natural world than all his years in remote environments. Having studied zoology at Edinburgh and Oxford, Alastair Humphreys began his first expedition in 2001, cycling 46,000 miles around the world. He was a National Geographic Adventurer of the Year in 2012. His fifteen books include the bestselling Microadventures, My Midsummer Morning and The Boy Who Biked the World trilogy, plus Great Adventurers, which won the Stanford’s Children’s Travel Book of the Year, and The Girl Who Rowed the Ocean, which was shortlisted for the same prize. He lives in Kent.
